Ever emailed your boss, promising a task will be done by the end of the week, only to let it completely slip your mind, winding up getting chewed out in front of your peers in the process?
Not a good feeling to say the least.
Well, Microsoft's Cortana has added an update that it hopes helps with that regard. The company's digital assistant had added a capability that allows it to comb through your emails and automatically detect commitments, offering up potent reminders.
Cortana collaborated with Microsoft Research (MSR), which was already searching for innovative ways to automatically recognize commitments via emails, and collaborated with them to bolster the digital assistant to keep its users better in command of their day and their tasks at hand, thus preventing jobs from piling up.
This commitment/reminder feature — seemingly something that we can all use — will roll out to users of the Windows Insider Program first, before all Windows 10 users eventually can make use of of it as well.
Also included in the update is Cortana's learning capability to craft schedules around your normal routine. A blog on Microsoft's website uses the example of a morning person receiving a meeting request for 7 p.m. Sensing that the suggested time doesn't coincide with his or her normal day, Cortana will quickly offer up an alert, recommending to change it to a more suitable time.
"Helping you to keep tabs on your commitments is just one of the ways Cortana will get more proactive about managing your schedule," Microsoft's blog post says.
Pretty helpful feature.
