Who do you like to win the Super Bowl 50 matchup between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos on February 7?
Will it be Cam Newton, leading the Panthers to a Super Bowl celebration, or Peyton Manning, the oldest quarterback to ever lead a team to the Super Bowl, getting the job done?
While the debate will rage on over the next two weeks, Tecmo Super Bowl — one of the all-time classic sports video games — is weighing in. On Monday, Tecmo Super Bowl unleashed a gameplay simulation of how it expects the Broncos-Panthers game to go.
The very first play of the simulation has Newton dropping back in the pocket from his own 20-yard line and throwing a bomb to wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. for a touchdown.
The simulation has Manning coming right back on the next drive, though, finding running back C.J. Anderson for a big gain down the field. However, when Manning goes back to the same rusher on another passing play, Anderson coughs up for the ball for a costly fumble, recovered by Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis.
The Panthers take a 7-0 lead into halftime and tack on a field goal early in the second half to extend that lead to 10-0. Although Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman punches in a touchdown at the other end to pull Denver within 10-7, Jonathan Stewart takes a halfback toss to the house to add to the Panthers' win and close out the game via a 17-7 victory.
What's best about the simulation is Newton even pulls out a few struggling-graphics worth of dance moves, which are a far cry from his exploits in real life, but we'll take it.
Are you with the prediction of the Panthers winning 17-7?
Hey ... if only Manning had Bo Jackson in his backfield, right?
