Daniel Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter to most, but the actor is doing everything he can do to get some distance from the iconic character. Radcliffe has worked pretty much nonstop since ending his eight film run on the very lucrative franchise.
Now the actor is finally making some inroads towards separating himself from the role that made him a household name. Despite the runaway success of the Harry Potter films, the actor is still very critical of himself and his work. He cites the sixth film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," as his least favorite of his performances.
"And that's why it's hard to watch a film like Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, because I'm just not very good in it. I hate it," Radcliffe said according to The Daily Mail. "My acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn't come across. My best film is the fifth one (Order Of The Phoenix) because I can see a progression."
It is natural for a performer to not be crazy about all of the roles they take on, but Harry Potter was such a universal phenomenon and beloved character that it is hard to imagine. While Harry Potter will always be a once-in-a-lifetime role that Radcliffe is still very grateful for, it is only natural for the actor to analyze as he matures.
Most actors would kill for a Harry Potter-sized opportunity to get into the business, so Radcliffe is careful when choosing his words when discussing his iconic role. After all it is not everyday that an actor gets the chance to embody one of the world's most popular characters. The actor continues to stretch himself as a performer, trying his hand at both theater and film roles that are entirely different from the role he will always be known for.
Radcliffe is currently starring in romantic comedy "What If" in theaters now, and is next appearing in "Horns," due out on October 31.
