Microsoft rolls out new Surface Pro 3 ads, aims to knockout MacBook Air

Microsoft and Apple have been feuding for years and the two are not shy about taking the fight public. They both have their share of commercials promoting their products, but none more memorable than the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" series that pitted them against each other.

This year, Microsoft is taking the same route. First it was Cortana versus Siri. Now, it's the Surface Pro 3 taking on the MacBook Air.

What a way to start the week. Microsoft released three ads Monday targeting the MacBook Air. All three ads are similarly themed, all emphasizing the Surface Pro 3's features and, of course, how they best what the MacBook Air is capable of. Just in case the ads aren't clear enough to speak for themselves, each one ends with the tagline "The tablet that can replace your laptop."

The first one is titled "Crowded." It starts out with two people talking, with one saying that the Surface Pro 3 is both a tablet and a laptop. The other counters that surely a tablet doesn't have the same power as the Intel i5 processor used by the MacBook Air. To this, the other replies that the Surface Pro 3 is fitted with an equivalent processor, showing off that the tablet can run not just Microsoft Office but also Photoshop, while at the same time offering pen support. The MacBook Air user says he also has a touchscreen (iPad) and a pen (a typical pen and notebook), realizing that he has "a lot of stuff to carry." "You are more powerful than you think," ends the Surface Pro 3 user.

The second ad is much simpler. Aptly called "Head to Head," it simply runs a direct comparison of the MacBook Air and the Surface Pro 3, pointing out both similarities and differences. The Surface Pro 3 highlights that the MacBook Air is not a touchscreen, doesn't offer pen support and don't have a detachable keyboard.

The third ad rounds off the series by showing just how powerful the Surface Pro 3 is. Titled "Power," it starts off with the Mac user asking if the Surface Pro 3 is running a full version of Adobe Photoshop. It is, and the Surface Pro 3 user adds that the tablet is just as fast as the Mac but at the same time it has a touchscreen, numerous ports and a kickstand. "So, you're saying it does more than my Mac?" asks the Mac user. "Well, technically you said it," answers the Surface Pro 3 user.

The Surface Pro 3 was released on June 20 in North America.
