'Sega 3D Classics Collection' With ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ And Eight Other Games Coming To Nintendo 3DS

Want to play some of Sega's coolest retro games in one neat package? Well, all you need is a Nintendo 3DS and the Sega 3D Classics Collection.

It looks like the statement of Nintendo Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Scott Moffitt's statement about how the "Nintendo 3DS is here to stay" has just gotten another layer to reinforce it with.

Sega 3D Classics Collection consists of nine games, where four out of the bunch has never been released on the Nintendo 3DS before. To top them all off, developer M2 carried out visual improvements across the board and included new game modes, giving each title a little modern boost they deserve.

Now, on to the nitty-gritty details of the assortment.

Sonic The Hedgehog

This is where it all began. The renowned blue mammal is out to save the little critters of South Island from the clutches of Dr. Eggman, who plans to turn every single one of them into a robot slave.

Power Drift

Power Drift is a sprite-based circuit racer, and it's one of the two entries here that has never gone beyond Japanese soil.

Puyo Puyo 2

This is the definition of simple but difficult. It's a competitive puzzle game where players can duke it out with friends or AI via local multiplayer.

Puyo Puyo 2 is the second game in the list that wasn't released outside of Japan. With that said, Sega notes that it's going to retain its original language because "of the quirks of trying to localize a game hard-coded in Japanese." There are English instructions in the digital manual that comes with the collection, though.

Maze Walker

As the name suggests, Maze Walker takes players to a maze, where they'll have to escape and steer clear of danger. This game is designed for the SegaScope 3D glasses on the Sega Master System, and it was called Maze Hunter when it rolled out in the west before. Also, this'll be the first time it arrives on the Nintendo 3DS.

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears Of Opa-Opa

If classic scrolling shooter is your cup of tea, then Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa is for you. Sega mentions that this is the very same version as the one released on the Master System.

Fantasy Zone II W

Fantasy Zone II W takes the graphical aspect of Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa to the next level, where it features some nifty 3D effects.

Thunder Blade

Helicopters, guns and missiles – it has everything for someone who's looking for some action. Compared with the original version, this will have stereoscopic 3D visuals and a slew of new features.

Galaxy Force II

Save the galaxy in this remastered version of Galaxy Force II, where it has twice the amount of pixels crammed in than the first one.

Altered Beast

Beat up demons and beasts Roman style in Altered Beast to rescue Athena from Neff. Revived by none other than the big honcho Zeus himself, you can shapeshift your way to victory. It's playable in local co-op.

Sega 3D Classics Collection will come with a price tag of $29.99 in physical stores or at the Nintendo eShop. To make things even sweeter, the retail package will include the original artwork of Pokémon art director Ken Sugimori.

Go ahead and mark those calendars, as the game will go official on April 26.
