Garmin's next-generation marine GPS smartwatch is on the way ... and it's safe to say that it's much more than just a watch.
On Thursday, the company announced its new quatix 3 smartwatch, equipped with everything from cruising to fishing and sailing functions.
The way the quatix 3 watch works is it streams NMEA 2000 boat data from compatible onboard Garmin marine devices. That boat data grants access to sensor information such as speed, temperature, depth, and wind data when on the boat. It's also equipped with a three-axis electronic compass, auto-calibrating altimeter and barometer.
Mariners will also appreciate the quatix 3's ability to snap still shots and start and stop recording using its built-in VIRB action camera. The GPS aspect also allows users to pinpoint locations that they can then navigate back towards ... something that come in handy when out in sea.
The watch's features even extends to fishing and sports such as rowing, swimming, hiking, skiing, running and more. The fishing aspect includes a competition timer and even a catch log to allow users to keep track of the fishes they catch.
Touting up to 20 hours of battery life in GPS mode, the quatix 3 is slated for a release within this first quarter, equipped with a $599.99 price tag.
