Wargaming's much-hyped World of Tanks retro game made its official debut on the PlayStation 4, going live for all PS4 gamers worldwide.
Back in November 2015, World of Tanks made headlines when Wargaming announced that an open beta would finally hit the PS4 in December. The open beta saw plenty of takers, but that was no big surprise: World of Tanks is the most popular MMO/tank action/shooter game of its kind.
After making its way from the PC to the Xbox One, World of Tanks is now finally live for PS4 gamers as well and it brings a cool battlefield with lots of nifty features. The game doesn't involve any pay walls nor does it require gamers to shell out cash to win; it's a simple, free game that enables players to fire shells and blow up rival tanks in 15 vs 15 online battles.
For those unfamiliar with the game, here's the deal. World of Tanks starts out with three nations - the U.S., Germany, and USSR, a hefty army of more than 130 tanks, and dozens of maps with 24/7 tactical action/combat. Gamers can choose the nation they want to start with and start battling.
Each battle will bring players experience points (XP), as well as in-game currency (Silver) which they can use to upgrade their tanks or buy new ones. As a player advances and grows more powerful, additional perks and skills become available.
"There's also a Store where you can buy Premium time and tanks to help you earn faster in-game or for collecting special tanks," TJ Wagner, Wargaming's Project Lead for World of Tanks on consoles, notes in a recent announcement on the PlayStation Blog.
Another great thing about World of Tanks is that it's constantly evolving and improving the experience, offering monthly content which features updates, maps, nations, and tanks - all completely free of charge. There are plenty of games out there that release paid updates, but World of Tanks is not one of them.
Lastly, it's worth pointing out that the PS4 version of World of Tanks brings some neat exclusives that are not available on other platforms. Such treats include custom maps, tanks, and other cool tricks the PlayStation platform brings to the table, but fans will have to play the game to learn more.
