A Google Street View driver was ticketed for "careless prohibited driving" after the vehicle slammed into another car in Little Rock, Ark.
The car, which was going the wrong direction on a one-way street, hit the other car as it tried to perform a U-turn.
The accident, which happened at 6 p.m. last Thursday, caused considerable damage to the front part of the Google vehicle. Forbidden Hillcrest, a local Little Rock news website, has released a photograph of the scene. The image showed Little Rock police officers examining the crash site. Another photo, which was taken by a driver who passed by the accident site, shows the Google car with its front bumper missing. The driver was also on the roof of the car, possibly inspecting the vehicle's camera equipment for any damage.
Alexander Spurr, a 28-year-old from Bryant, Ark., told police that he attempted to make a U-turn after realizing that he was on the wrong side of the street. He said that he "accidentally came out onto" an adjacent road before hitting the other car. Spurr said that he collided with the other vehicle "in the side and spun him around." His car hit a vehicle that contained 22-year-old Dylan Case. Case, who said that his car was "totaled" in the accident, was injured in the crash. Case claims that he had a green light when the accident happened and accused Spurr of running a red light.
Spurr, who was driving a 2010 Subaru Legacy owned by Google, was said to have caused $1,500 in damages to his vehicle. Case, who was in a 2008 Mazda owned by his girlfriend, was said to have sustained $2,000 in damages. The two vehicles were towed away from the crash site.
After the crash, Case went to a hospital emergency room. He was fitted with a neck brace. Case said that after receiving a CAT and X-rays, he was found to have sustained whiplash and bruised ribs from the accident. Spurr was unharmed in the incident.
Case said that he plans to sue over the accident. Spurr said that he would likely be fired because of the mishap.
