It's been more than a month since Star Wars: The Force Awakens released to box office records and critical acclaim. Now, the long wait begins for the next Star Wars film, Rogue One, which is coming in December.
December ... that's almost an entire year away! Thankfully, fans are on top of things. We've seen numerous Star Wars fan films over the years, but this latest one from director Joe Sill will make you wish it was December already.
The film is titled Kara, and it looks to return viewers to the familiar desert sands of Tatooine. Or maybe Jakku? Regardless, it's set during the original trilogy, where a father and daughter are living in the wastelands when a battle between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire puts them smack dab in the middle of the conflict. Soon, they find a stranded X-Wing pilot, only to be ambushed by Stormtroopers.
The entire seven-minute film is an impressive piece of work. There are Stormtrooper shoot-outs, X-Wings fighting it out with Tie Fighters in the skies and just a hint of Force sensitivity. The acting, tone and look are a little more somber than you may be used to from a Star Wars film, but that only helps to make it all the more interesting. The special effects are spot-on as well, with the X-Wings and Tie Fighters in particular looking just like their official film counterparts.
It also makes the wait for Rogue One feel that much longer. You can watch the full short film below. Rogue One is in theaters Dec. 16, 2016.
