Hey, Apple — Google this.
Metrics company App Annie is reporting that Google Play piled up twice as many downloads worldwide than rival Apple's App Store did in 2015.
According to App Annie, Google Play counted nearly 200 million downloads to the App Store's 100 million over last year. The data company attributed Google Play's success to nearly 50 percent growth in emerging Android markets such as India, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia and Mexico, as reported by The Next Web.
Although it's an encouraging sign for Google, the App Store still generated more revenue than that of Play by nearly $100 million over 2015.
App Annie, as reported by The Next Web, pinpointed the App Store's revenue growth to users primarily in China, Japan, and the United States.
In addition, although Google Play tallied more downloads than the App Store last year, it still trails the App Store in the United Kingdom, where Play doesn't even cut the top 10 list of outlets where users download from.
Within App Annie's data, though, Apple Watch apps seen a huge increase of downloads in 2015, going from 3,000 in April to 14,000 in December. Music streaming apps were also downloaded more in 2015 compared to 2014.
While Google Play amassed more downloads than the App Store last year, what could it do to accrue more revenue than its rival outlet this year?
