Mortal Kombat X was, in a lot of ways, a new beginning. Not only did the game feature a roster filled with new characters, but it was the first major fighting game release of the console generation. It set the stage for games like Street Fighter V to release later this year - and, for all intents and purposes, Mortal Kombat X did its job extremely well.
Better yet, NetherRealm handled the game's downloadable content extremely well. While other games were charging for extra skins, Mortal Kombat X's DLC packs all felt like valuable additions to a game that was already rich with content. A total of eight new characters have joined in on the fight, with a plethora of stages, costumes and extras included as bonuses.
Of course, not everyone can afford to purchase every game right away or picking up every DLC pack that hits digital marketplaces. Thankfully, NetherRealm Studios has those gamers covered: the developer just announced a compilation of everything Mortal Kombat X, including all characters and DLC.
Meet Mortal Kombat XL:
Just to be clear, Mortal Kombat XL isn't a sequel, or expansion of any kind: NetherRealm Studios has gathered every piece of extra content and DLC related to the core Mortal Kombat X game and is re-releasing it on a single disc. If you've already purchased all of Mortal Kombat X's downloadable content already, you won't finding anything new here - anyone that missed the game the first time around, however, will definitely want to take a look at Mortal Kombat XL.
The only thing that's strange about Mortal Kombat XL's reveal is that it already has a release date...and yet, the core game's second DLC pack doesn't. It's easy to assume that NetherRealm Studios is simply planning on releasing both at the same time, but it's still a little strange that there's some previously-announced content without a launch date.
Either way, expect to see Mortal Kombat XL hit store shelves on March 1.
