Sony is sending out invitations for its press event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on Feb. 22. It'll take place at 7:30 GMT or 8:30 CET.
The company didn't include details of what it will showcase, though. What about the Xperia Z6? Well, considering that the Z5 lineup rolled out just a few months ago, the introduction of the presumed Z6 family could be too much to ask for.
At any rate, here are a couple of products that'll most likely appear at the exhibit:
SmartWatch 4
Now, the SmartWatch 3 didn't exactly turn heads when it was unveiled, but it does have some components under the hood that has potential to keep up with similar modern devices. For one, it has GPS, whereas other popular brands do not.
Smartwatches have been booming in the tech industry, and there's a good chance that Sony wants a piece of the pie. In other words, a SmartWatch 4 is not a completely farfetched idea, but it's all just speculation at this point.
Xperia Z5 Tablet
Based on Sony's history of events, the possibility of the Xperia Z5 tablet making an appearance is slim to none.
To explain, Sony revealed the waterproof and thin-at-the-time Xperia Tablet Z at the MWC 2013, and it introduced the Xperia Z2 in 2014. Next, the company decided for a simple Z Tablet update and the unveiling of the Xperia M4 Aqua in 2015. This track record indicates that Sony prefers to make major headlines at the IFA, including the launch of the Xperia Z1, Z3 and Z5.
The glimmer of hope lies in the Z2's reveal at the MWC instead of the IFA, where it provides the small chance of a big press conference at the upcoming event.
Xperia C6
As mentioned earlier, the Xperia Z6 is an unlikely attendee at the MWC 2016, but it appears that the bezel-free C6 is. A few days ago, leaks of the Xperia C6 made rounds on the Internet, and as a result, some people started to speculate that it could be that special something that Sony has in mind.
According to the leak, the smartphone will sport a 5.5-inch display with a 1,080 x 1,920 resolution. Also, it'll house an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 clocked at 2.0 GHz along with a Mali-T860MP2 at 700 MHz.
Midrange Smartphones
If nothing else, the safest bet – out of this bunch, at least – is that Sony will introduce some midrange smartphones at the event.
February seems to be shaping up into a big month for Sony, as the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact are scheduled to land on U.S. shores on Feb. 7. However, it has been confirmed that the two handsets won't be fitted with a fingerprint scanner. Other than that, it might be a good idea to limit expectations.
