If you cancelled your subscription to the streaming music service Tidal, you should check your bank statement to make sure the monthly fee is not still being charged to your account.
According to a report from the Verge, Tidal is still charging customers after they discontinue the service.
Reporter Chris Welch revealed that he was charged $19.99, the amount the streaming service's hi-fi subscription costs per month, despite the fact that he cancelled his membership a few months back. Other ex-customers have also revealed via Twitter they too have been hit with the charge.
After Welch informed the company about the issue, Tidal responded via email saying that the money would be refunded within two to five business days, and granted him with three months of its premium subscription (the tier that costs $9.99) for free. However, that's not all.
In order to allow the ex-customer to access the service for free as part of the apology, Tidal reactivated the reporter's username without first asking for permission.
"Your TIDAL account is now active, and you can log in with your existing username and password," the email reads.
While this sounds like a a great deal for the error, if the user goes into their account settings, they will see that they will again be billed automatically when the three months end. That means those who forget three months from now will be charged that $19.99 again for a service they no longer want.
Tidal then updated its subscription page to say that users will not be charged after the three-month trial membership ends.
"Rest assured, we've already refunded any charges. Accounts haven't been renewed, but we have offered a 3 month complimentary trial of the premium service on top of the refund as an apology that will not be auto renewed upon completion," Tidal said in an email.
It appears the charge was just an honest mistake on behalf of Jay Z's streaming service, but it would be wise to double-check your account to make sure this doesn't happen again.
