Anime series Bleach now has its own mobile game, Bleach: Brave Souls, which arrived on both iOS and Android this week across the world.
The hack-and-slash game allows for up to three players at a time and features characters from the animated series. The story is a retelling of the anime series and follows Ichigo Kurosaki when he becomes a Soul Reaper after meeting another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His new powers give him the ability to protect humans from evil spirits, as well as offer guidance to souls after death.
"Follow the Bleach story from the moment Rukia and Ichigo first meet," reads the game description on Google Play. "Develop your characters as you complete quests that recreate pivotal scenes from the story."
In Bleach: Brave Souls, character upgrades are customizable, allowing for the creation of unique skills through leveling and training. Players can also compete in weekly leagues to fight against other teams for special in-game prizes.
"Unleash each Bleach character's unique special moves to carve your way to victory," reads the game's description. "Special moves are fully voiced by the original Japanese anime voice actors. Combine your favorite characters into teams of three. You can even make combinations of characters you would never see in the original story. The possibilities are almost limitless!"
The mobile game is free-to-play, but also allows for in-game purchases.
Here's the official trailer for the game:
Developer KLab Global initially released Bleach: Brave Souls last year in Japan, where it had more than 7 million downloads. In November, the developer began taking preregistration applications from international gamers interested in playing it.
The Bleach anime series ran in Japan from 2004 to 2012 and received a worldwide release. It arrived in the U.S. on Cartoon Network in 2006 on Adult Swim: the network now airs the series on Toonami. Since then, it's received dubs in a multitude of languages. It also spawned several films, drama CDs and a series of rock musicals.
All of Bleach's episodes are also currently available on both Hulu and Netflix.
Bleach: Brave Souls is available now on iTunes and Google Play.
