Ubisoft is seeking to thwart hackers and smash bugs in Rainbow Six Siege using a pair of patches now out for PC and consoles.
Consoles will actually get a patch that's been proven and applied on PC, with the latest update set to arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this month.
The update, released yesterday, addresses cheaters, including those who go rogue and wander outside of their zones for some unsanctioned reconnaissance. It also switched the server tick rate from 30 to 60 times per second because no one likes seeing their bullets hit something that counts for nothing.
PCs will receive Update 1.3, while consoles will receive the 775-MB Update 1.2, which includes the hit registration improvements.
On Jan. 20, the update will arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On Feb. 2, Ubisoft will release a much bigger patch that will arrive on all three platforms at the same time.
"This one is smaller because we felt we needed to quickly fix some issues," Ubisoft says.
Here's exactly what Ubisoft did to make its unforgiving tactical shooter even less forgiving for those who try to exploit the game's code:
Hit Registration Improvements
- Server tick rate updated for consoles, previously tested on and deployed to PC
Anti-Cheat Fixes
- Improved cheating countermeasures
- Three-day bans replaced with permabans
Exploit Patch: Defenders Leaving Their Staging Zone
- Added insta-kill switch to smite Defenders that leave their zone during the staging phase
Level Design Improvements
- Patched exploit that allowed Defenders to leave their zone
Multiplayer Fixes
- Partial fix of Error [2-0x00000041]
- Potential full fix of the loading screen freeze (smoke background)
- Potential full fix of the failed data synchronization issue
- Session authentication data center proxy instead of the Dev one
- Improved error tracking
- Ranked match reconnection fixes for PC:
- Games closed by using "x" or ALT+F4 won't close all sessions
- Added warnings for players AlT+F4-ing or F10-ing out of ranked matches
- Fixed several small connectivity and crash issues
Ubisoft hasn't revealed what will be wrapped inside of Update 2.0, but it says it plans to check off some of the things listed in its massive list of "Top Priorities and Known Issues."
