Every seasoned traveler knows how important it is to purchase an airline ticket for a window seat. Just imagine sitting in the aisle and constantly having the flight attendant knock into your elbow with the beverage cart — or worse — being sandwiched between two people with the feeling that you have no personal space.
However, now, travelers can opt to swap seats — of course, for a price — thanks to a new app called Seateroo.
Launched on Monday in the App Store, Seatroo is an online marketplace where ticketed air travelers can charge other passengers to trade seats in exchange for electronic payment. Of course, that is if you don't mind getting stuck in the aisle seat for the money.
Seateroo works by first entering the user's airline, flight number and date when launching the app. The user can then decide to sell their seat or request a new seat. Sellers can enter in the price they would like to sell their seat for, along with providing the seat number and section location. They can also choose to accept bids on the seat if they believe their window seat is in really high demand.
Users can then make or respond to offers and make (by entering in their credit card details) or receive electronic payments. Once the transaction is complete, the users can then take their new seats.
"Apps have greatly enhanced the travel experience for many," Brad Pursel, founder and president of Seateroo, said in a press release. "I believe that Seateroo has the potential to become a travel app that is used widely by those traveling by air for business or pleasure. After all, on almost any flight, there are going to be both people who wish they had a better seat as well as others who would like to save money on travel."
The innovative app is changing air travel by giving users the chance to upgrade to a better seat when their desired seat is sold out. This could be especially helpful for those who purchase their airfare on travel websites, where they cannot choose their seat.
Users can also look at it as reducing the cost of their traveling expenses for opting to swap their seat in exchange for money.
Also, since many airlines are improving their Wi-Fi capabilities, travelers may even be able to trade off when they start to feel uncomfortable mid-flight. Just make sure the safety seat belt sign is off before moving.
Seateroo is now available to download for free for iOS.
