Dell has just launched the new Alienware X51 R3, its VR capable PC, at the CES 2016 event in Las Vegas, and customers can now preorder it.
After passing the test for the virtual reality headset, the company said that its Alienware X51 R3 is definitely an Oculus Rift ready machine, which is specifically designed for VR gaming enthusiasts.
Apart from the Alienware X51 R3, the Oculus Rift bundle is also available with the Dell XPS 8900 desktops.
Frank Azor, Alienware co-founder and a Dell executive, said that the Oculus Rift VR headset will be bundled with Alienware's Area 51 gamer PCs at the price of $1,600. Oculus will reportedly slash $200 off its $600 VR headset while Alienware and Dell PCs will both start at the price of $1,199.
"Alienware's X51 comes VR ready so you can experience the power and immersion of virtual reality gaming," said Alienware. "Leading the way in innovation, these award winning systems use the latest technology, meeting the recommended spec for the Oculus Rift Headset and driving high performance gaming in both VR and in traditional PC gaming."
The X51 R3 comes with an Intel Core i5-6400 processor, a RAM of 8 GB and internal hard drive of 1 TB. The machine seemed to be designed with serious gamers in mind as shown by the numerous ports that are found on the front and back parts. The most significant ports are on the rear, which includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, a single HDMI output and six various USB ports. In essence, users would need four different USB ports in order to power up the Oculus VR headset.
Other ports include the microphone in and microphone out found at the front, channel speaker audio out and add-on port designed for a dedicated amplifier that is sold separately by Dell.
"Turbocharge your gaming with the optional Alienware Graphics Amplifier," said Dell. "With advanced NVIDIA or AMD-enabled graphics, you can enable support for Ultra HD 4K gaming for immersive 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. That's four times the resolution of 1,080p."
Apart from the amplifier, other items that are sold separately include the Roccat Isku FX Gaming Keyboard, the Roccat Kone XTD Mouse and the Alienware TactX Headset.
The news follows the recent uproar regarding the $600 price of the Oculus Rift, as the gadget was previously thought to cost roughly $350. Oculus founder and CEO Palmer Luckey officially appologized for the price confusion, but attractive bundles will likely count more than appologies.
