Vivint Smart Home announced a new indoor camera at CES in Las Vegas on Wednesday that is the first to feature two-way talk with one-touch callout capabilities.
Called the Vivint Ping camera, the two-way talk feature works by having one user simply press a button on the device. With this one touch, the device then sends a remote user a notification on their smartphone or tablet. The remote user will then be able to see the person and can engage in a two-way conversation.
Equipped with multiple microphones that have advanced echo cancellation, the Vivint Ping is the first to allow anyone located in the house to also call out as well as call in, ideal for a parent looking to check in on their child, or a sibling asking the other to answer the door without having to yell throughout the house, send a text or make a call.
Vivint Ping allows the user to set personalized notifications for their mobile devices, such as setting alerts when someone walks into a room or when a child gets home from school.
The camera streams 1080p video in HD to the user's smartphone with 140-degree views, and has infrared LEDs so that the user can still see at nighttime. Vivint Ping records only the most relevant footage, using the company's advanced video analytics, such as when someone enters a room as opposed to a light turning on in the room.
Vivint Smart Home also provides a cloud-based service called Vivint Smart Clips that gives users on-demand access to recorded clips of up to 20 seconds to be able to continuously check in on their home, as well as 45 days worth of footage for free.
Vivint Ping is also integrated with the Vivint Sky smart home platform so the device can also serve as a security camera. If the user takes advantage of this feature, the device will start recording video if an intruder sets off an alarm and alerts the Vivint monitoring center.
Vivint Smart Home's Vivint Ping will be available as part of the company's product suite in the second quarter of 2016. The price is not yet known.
