"X-Men: Days of Future Past" found both critical and financial success when it was released in May, but the film fans saw in theaters isn't everything that director Bryan Singer shot for the time-traveling epic. Now it looks like the footage that didn't make the cut for the final film will see the light of day after all when Fox releases an extended edition of the movie sometime in 2015.
Executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner hinted that an extended version of the film might land sometime this year. That turned out to be a little optimistic, but the extended edition is coming, as confirmed by James Finn, Fox's executive vice president of marketing communications.
Finn said on Twitter that the extended edition of the film will be coming in 2015. The "Days of Future Past" DVD release on Sept. 23 and Blu-ray release on Oct. 14 will not include the extra scenes says Finn, and will instead only be the theatrical version of the film, meaning diehard fans may want to wait before pulling the trigger on purchasing the theatrical release. When asked about more details on the extended edition, Finn simply replied "Soon."
By calling it an "extended edition," it seems like the scenes left on the cutting room floor will be integrated into the final film in a similar way to that of the extended editions of the "Lord of the Rings" films, rather than packed together in a "deleted scenes" section of the home release.
So what additional scenes will be included in the home release of the extended edition? It isn't entirely known, but almost for certain the scenes involving the cut subplot around Anna Paquin's Rogue character will be included. When Singer announced scenes involving Paquin's Rogue had been cut from the final version of the film prior to its release, it was hard not to be a little disappointed. She had been featured in various promotional images for the movie and Rogue was a major player in Singer's original "X-Men" film and its sequel "X2: X-Men United." It made sense for her to return alongside Singer to the franchise, as both had played a major part in kicking off the film series. Thankfully it looks like that will become a reality sometime next year.
Singer himself said despite having to cut Paquin's scene that he hoped to make it available on the DVD "as she was quite wonderful in it."
