Computer networking manufacturer TP-Link has announced the Talon AD7200, which is the world's first router to be shipped with Qualcomm's 802.11ad technology.
The TP-Link Talon AD7200 router uses 802.11ad as well as 802.11ac technology and effectively combines 60GHz, 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands for delivering high-speed Internet of up to 7 GB per second. The high speed connection will allow users to open sites in a flash and download movies in seconds.
With the new TP-Link Talon AD7200 router, users will be able to download an entire feature-length 4K video in around 4 minutes. Customers can also transfer thousands of images to a device within seconds.
"Through our continued collaboration with Qualcomm Atheros, TP-LINK is thrilled to introduce the Talon AD7200, the industry's first wireless 11ad multi-band router launching in early 2016," says Andy Chen, VP of networking business unit at TP-LINK International. "Now users can share thousands of photos, full-length HD movies, and entire music libraries between devices in seconds."
Chen also added that users can benefit from the Talon AD7200 while playing games online at speeds faster in comparison to wired Gigabit Ethernet connections.
According to TP-Link the 60GHz frequency cannot penetrate through walls easily resulting in slow or interrupted Internet connection. However, users get fast and uninterrupted Internet connection with the Talon AD7200 as the router switch to 2.4GHz and 5GHz when needed.
The Talon AD7200 has eight adjustable antennas that have powered amplifiers for making the signal available in all nooks and crannies of the house. Even though the Talon AD7200 is a Wi-Fi router, it also has four GbE ports that customers can use for hooking up gaming consoles and other devices when needed.
The latest TP-Link offering is also equipped with two USB 3.0 ports that can allow sharing of data on external drives wirelessly.
TP-Link has used guest network capabilities in the Talon AD7200, which allows users to have control and limit on the content accessed by visitors. The router also comes in handy for homes that have children. Parents can set-up the Talon AD7200 to manage what their kids are watching online and also set times for the use of the Internet.
Customers who like the ease of touchscreens can configure their Talon AD7200 with an Android or iOS app.
The Talon AD7200 is worth the wait for customers who are searching to buy a new wireless router. TP-Link has not confirmed the exact availability details of the new router but the company suggests that customers should expect the Talon AD7200 in early 2016. TP-Link has not revealed the price of the Talon AD7200. However, customers should expect the router to bear a premium price tag.
