VR content is becoming more popular every month, and while there are plenty of ways to consume it, either in the works or already released, there is a limited number of ways to actually make it. That's where the Vuze comes in.
Built by HumanEyes Technologies, Vuze is basically a consumer-targeted 360-degree 3D camera. In other words, it's a camera that takes a spherical image of its surroundings.
The rig, which looks like a UFO, is aimed at being totally headache free, offering what the company says is a seamless stitching technique along with close to real-time processing.
To capture the 360-degree view, Vuze uses a total of eight full HD cameras, each with an ultra-wide viewing lens. Each can capture 120 degrees horizontal and 180 degrees vertical, almost producing a full sphere. In 4K, the camera can capture at 30 frames per second.
Images are then processed in almost real time through the Vuze Studio software, which is available for Mac or PC. The camera can also be controlled through an iOS or Android phone or tablet.
According to HumanEyes, the Vuze Studio software is easy enough for novices to use, but has enough complex features for the more experienced video editor.
The "3D" part of the device is an important aspect of it because of the fact that it adds an extra layer of depth to the image – perfect for virtual reality viewing.
"Its battery and removable SD card can capture up to one hour of video allowing people to capture and relive every part of the world around them in breathtaking detail," says the company.
As for the design, HumanEyes promises a portable and lightweight camera coming in a variety of colors and complete with a tripod and monopod.
The release date of the camera is August 2016, and it will cost $1,000.
