A last-generation Assassin's Creed game has been long rumored, but now, via a leaked trailer, it seems there is confirmation that Ubisoft will indeed be releasing two Assassin's Creed games this holiday season: Unity for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and Rogue for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Rogue will have players playing as an assassin hunting Templar through the frigid North Atlantic seas.
As seen in the now released official trailer, a man that looks very much like an assassin but with a hint of Templar flare can be seen executing a wounded assassin on a frozen glacier. Ships can be seen in the background. Better yet, the trailer reveals a release date: November 11.
After the trailer leak, Game Informer magazine went ahead and spilled the beans, revealing that next issue's cover story is a double feature with new details on both Unity and Rogue. Rogue will take place during the Seven Years' War and looks to fill an important gap between the events of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III. The magazine also says that the Seven Years' War heavily contributes to France's financial troubles, troubles that will lead, along with many other problems, to the French Revolution, so expect Rogue to play into the events of Unity. Players will be controlling the assassin Arno in Unity, who has a Templar love interest and at one time was a Templar himself.
While Unity breaks new ground with improved parkour gameplay across the rooftops of Paris in the French Revolution, Rogue looks to be taking inspiration from last year's well-received Black Flag, with ships and naval combat being a key feature of the game. Game Informer says players won't only travel to the North Atlantic seas but also visit a re-imagined New York and the Appalachian River Valley as assassin-turned-Templar Shay Patrick Cormac on his hunt. More details about the game's frozen setting and the assassin-hunting tools at Cormac's disposal will be revealed when subscribers receive their magazines in the next few weeks.
This isn't the first time Ubisoft has released two Assassin's Creed titles in a year, and it likely won't be the last. Ubisoft released the handheld Assassin's Creed: Liberation alongside Assassin's Creed III in 2012, with Liberation later being ported to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. While Rogue is currently last-gen only, expecting Ubisoft to eventually port the game to nex-generation consoles seems like a safe bet.
