Shenmue 3 became the highest funded video game Kickstarter campaign ever when it was announced back in June at Sony's E3 press conference, raising more than six million dollars for the project. Now, backers can see what all that money is going toward, as the official Shenmue 3 website has been updated with a new video preview of the game's visuals.
The video is a brief tour of a hut in Bailu Village. A fire is burning in the kitchen, a woman stands just outside the hut, and rays of light shine in from the outside. It certainly looks beautiful, but it is an all-too-short preview of the game in action. However, it's still one of our best looks at the game yet, with previous glimpses at the title being concept footage featured in the game's Kickstarter campaign video.
If you haven't checked out the official website before, it's filled with information and frequently updated. Those who aren't familiar with the previous games in the series (and let's be honest, most of us aren't) can get a brief history of the franchise's ongoing story and learn what made it so revolutionary for the time. You can also read monthly progress reports, preorder the game and more.
The original Shenmue launched on the Sega Dreamcast back in 1999, with the sequel releasing on both the Dreamcast and original Xbox on 2001. The series was originally planned as a trilogy, one that looks like it will now finally be realized 16 years later.
Shenmue 3 is currently slated to release for PlayStation 4 and PC in December 2017. You can check out the new in-game footage below.
