Samsung has sent out press invites for an Unpacked event scheduled for Sept. 3 in Berlin. The company is widely expected to officially unveil its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet.
Apple and Samsung are preparing to go to battle with some new weapons in their smartphone arsenal in September.
Apple is expected to follow a similar play it used last September when it broke from tradition and launched two iPhone models; the flagship iPhone 5s and the more affordable iPhone 5c, which was essentially the previous generation iPhone 5 wrapped inside bright and colorful plastic cases.
Leading up to the release of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, it was believed that the 5c would be significantly cheaper than its flagship sibling. When Tim Cook and Apple took the stage and announced pricing for both smartphones, the iPhone 5s, along with its desktop class 64-bit A7 processor, Touch ID fingerprint scanner, and premium aluminum case, had a starting price of $199 with a new 2-year contract.
Apple's iPhone 5c wasn't the budget smartphone many were hoping for and its pricing started out at $99, $100 less than its more powerful and feature-rich iPhone 5s. Many consumers decided to spend the extra $100 to get Apple's latest and greatest flagship iPhone 5s. Apple isn't expected to make that mistake again and will launch two high-end iPhone 6 smartphones. There will be a 4.7-inch model and a phablet-sized 5.5-inch variant, with both expected to use faster A8 processors, updated cameras, and a new redesigned and ultra-thin aluminum case.
Samsung isn't going to allow Apple to come in and take over the phablet category it created. The Korean company has scheduled an Unpacked event on Sept. 3 in Berlin just before the start of the annual IFA consumer electronics show (Sept. 5-10), where it's expected to take the wraps off the Galaxy Note 4.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is expected to feature a gorgeous 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display and will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor or a Samsung Exynos octa-core processor (depending on region). Current reports also claim that the Galaxy Note 4 could ship with a retina scanner that will be used to unlock the phablet.
That won't be the only new trick up its sleeve; there have also been numerous reports that claim the device will be the first smartphone to include a UV sensor that will measure the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation and provide users with tips on how to protect themselves based on the readings.
We'll be covering Samsung's Sept. 3 Unpacked event and will be sure to provide you with all of the news.
