Barnes & Noble has unveiled its latest and completely redesigned eReader, the NOOK GlowLight, which will compete with Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite eReader.
The country's largest bookstore chain said the NOOK GlowLight's lightweight design makes the eReader extremely comfortable to hold in one hand and read. The company also said the latest eReader is lighter and brighter than its pedecessor, boasts of crisp and sharp text and offers users with a seamless reading experience. The NOOK GlowLight has no full page flashing and no ads.
"Barnes & Noble was the first company to recognize and answer E Ink customers' number one request with a breakthrough integrated light for reading in the dark and today, with the new NOOK GlowLight, we've taken the reading experience to a new level," said Mahesh Veerina, Chief Operating Officer of NOOK Media.
The NOOK GlowLight sports a 6-inch anti-glare display with 758 x 1024 pixels resolution, that offers paper-like readability, even in bright sunlight. The newest eReader includes the next-generation lighting technology that offers uniformity across the display of the device for perfectly lit pages in any environment. The light turns on instantly and adjusts with just a touch.
The eReader can store up to 2,000 books and the battery can last to up to eight weeks on a single charge. The device weighs only 6.2 oz (175 g), which is around 15 percent lighter than its rival Kindle Paperwhite that weighs 7.03 ounces (206 grams).
Just like other eReaders, customers can access books, magazines, newspapers and personalized recommendations from Barnes & Noble. Users won't be bothered by ads and they can also avail of free in-store support and free automatic Wi-Fi in Barnes & Noble stores. NOOK GlowLight users can also read NOOK Books for free in Barnes & Noble stores.
The NOOK GlowLight is available for purchase at Barnes & Noble website. It carries a price tag of $119.
