If you're a gamer, you know having to constantly swap out batteries in a controller is a major pain. Even if you use rechargeable batteries and a charging station, it can still take far longer than you would like for your controller to be ready for action once again. Seems like gaming accessory maker Performance Designed Products knows this well, because its latest creation is one that just might have gamers jumping for joy.
It's the "Super Charger," and it basically does what its name implies. The accessory is a single controller-charging dock like many on the market now, except this one comes with the ability to fully recharge an Xbox One controller in less than 60 seconds. PDP (via IGN) says this is a first for the industry, and it certainly sounds like it.
"The Super Charger's unique ability to recharge the Xbox One controller in just seconds reduces interruption in game play sessions — a full recharge during a quick break provides convenience to all gamers," says PDP chief technology officer Tom Roberts.
The charger's unique ability looks to stem from the oversized battery pack that you can see in the image below. Having to wait under a minute instead of dozens is certainly a game-changer for controller charging stations, but sadly we don't yet know how much the Super Charger will cost. Considering you can buy a regular controller charging stand like this for $20, it's safe to the Super Charger will be more expensive. The question now is how much. PDP isn't saying when the Super Charger will be available, either.
Until more information is available, Xbox One gamers will just have to keep replacing batteries the old-fashioned way. No word yet on whether a PlayStation 4 version of this charger will be available, but given the PS4 controller's battery life, it would certainly seem like a no-brainer.
