As the final release of Destiny inches closer, developer Bungie is still swimming in all the data that was collected during the recent Destiny public beta. To illustrate the reams of statistics created by the beta, Bungie whipped up an infographic that shows just how the beta players spent their time.
Calling the beta "a blizzard of data," Bungie picked out a few choice stats to share with fans. Among the most impressive numbers ranks the total number of beta players, which topped out at 4,638,937 individual gamers. Those players created 6.5 million Guardians, or playable heroes in the game world. Those Guardians took part in an astonishing 88.3 million game sessions.
In a blog post, a Bungie Assistant Community Manager going by the handle "DeeJ" said that the company's favorite statistic is the "concurrent players" count. This indicates the number of gamers playing the Destiny beta online simultaneously. The highest count during the beta was 853,235 concurrent players. Bungie said that that was the largest number of simultaneous users to ever play a Bungie game, even more than those who played final release versions of titles in the original Halo trilogy.
Bungie had nothing but gratitude and praise for the beta players, promising that "'Destiny' will be a better game because you played it."
Destiny releases September 9, 2014 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
