With all the notoriety Kim Kardashian receives for her social media presence, you might guess that she's among the top tweeters. But Kim K, who seems to prefer Instagram lately as a vehicle for her never- ending selfie output, didn't even make the top 15.
The No. 1 most prolific tweeter among celebrities is actually Funkmaster Flex of New York local radio station Hot 97. While Flex might not be widely known throughout the country, he's somewhat of a legend in New York, having been instrumental in the development of Hot 97, New York City's first hip hop radio station way back in 1992 and remaining with the outlet ever since. Flex's Twitter output reads like a virtual RSS feed of music and pop culture news, along with enough woman's butt pics to rival Kardashian herself. His account lists whopping 42,859 tweets in 2015, which averages out to 121 tweets each day, or five every hour.
No. 2 on the list is also somewhat unexpected. It's Donnie Wahlberg, ex-member of New Kids on the Block and current star of "Blue Bloods" along with two reality shows, "Wahlburgers" and "Donnie Loves Jenny", which chronicles his life with his also-famous wife Jenny McCarthy, who unsurprisingly also made the list of top tweeters. Wahlberg dropped 33,510 tweets to his 769, 000 followers, generally chronicling his day to day life and dropping gems like "Just dropping by to say hi. So, hi!"
The top fifteen list sports a motley collection of oversharing reality stars and c-list celebs, but also includes another surprise--legendary actor William Shatner, best known for his iconic role as Captain Kirk on TV's legendary "Star Trek" series. Shatner sent out 14,648 tweets in 2015, including old-fashioned one-liners like "Meteorologists are such know-it-alls except when it comes to tomorrow's forecast". The 84-year-old also proves he can hang with the kids through his constant use of multiple emoticons in many of his tweets.
Kim K, in contrast, only sent out around 2000 tweets. The most popular Twitter celeb, Katy Perry, with almost 80 million followers, only tweeted around 500 times in 2015, proving there's no real correlation between the number of Tweets a celebrity sends out and their level of real world success or popularity.
