HTC confirmed that its One M9 and One A9 handsets are ready to get Android 6.0 and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, respectively, with the rollout to kick off any minute now.
Just a couple of days ago, HTC said that the unlocked versions of its One M9 and One A9 handsets are getting Marshmallow updates within the month. The One M9, the company's latest flagship, will receive the Marshmallow 6.0, while the One A9, HTC's controversial version of the iPhone, is getting the Marshmallow 6.0.1 build, as it already launched with Android 6.0 out of the box.
The 24-hour rollout information was revealed based on a tweet by Mo Versi, VP of product management at HTC, on Dec. 23.
Owners of the One M9 may have been eagerly waiting for the update to roll out on their devices given the fact that the older One M8 already started to receive the latest Android Marshmallow version since the beginning of the month.
First announced back in March, the One M9 boasts a 5-inch 1080p display that's sharp and bright, an impressive metal design and premium speakers. It's also one of the few newly-released devices that come with an expandable storage. Other impressive features of the company's 2015 flagship include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, non-removable Li-Po 2,840 mAh battery, 20 MP rear camera, 4 MP front camera, Cat.9 LTE connectivity, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage.
The Marshmallow update to the One M9 is said to bring a bunch of new features, the most notable among which is the 'Doze' mode. By using this feature, Android can effectively prevent the device's battery from getting drained when in a standby period. There is also the added ability to increase storage with the adoption of a microSD card.
As for the owners of the One A9 handset, they should be able to see some minor improvements brought by the update. The device is the first non-Nexus phone to come equipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box, and it's also set to get monthly updates. Moving now from Android 6.0 to 6.0.1 will not include any major updates, but some bug fixes and performance improvements should nonetheless be in the mix, along with more than 200 emojis.
For now, owners of the above-mentioned HTC handsets in the U.S. are set to receive the update. There is no information yet on whether non-U.S. residing owners of the said devices are also getting the update this December.
Meanwhile, the carrier variants of the HTC One M9 are slated to start receiving the latest Android build in early 2016.
Other HTC handsets that are also getting the Android 6.0 version include the HTC Butterfly 3, HTC One E8, One M8s, Desire 526, Desire 626, Desire 816, Desire 826, Desire EYE and Butterfly 2.
