In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, Roddenberry Entertainment will be releasing rare photos, script pages, documents, and more every single day of 2016 — all 366 of them. They’re even calling it The 366 Project.
Specifically, Roddenberry Entertainment will be posting all of this memorabilia to its social media channels. It’s unclear whether the various tidbits will span different incarnations of the franchise, as everything released so far seems to pertain to the original series or the first movie. Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive reveal came with three bonus bits of archival goodies — a shot of a draft of the series’ classic opening, one of an original storyboard frame from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and one of Leonard Nimoy in the makeup chair for the same film.
Given that it’s the 50th anniversary of the original show, it wouldn’t be surprising if most everything pulled from the vault relates to Kirk, Spock, Bones, and all the rest. It’s unlikely that a piece of that 366 will be devoted to anything involving Scott Bakula, for example, but a little something with Patrick Stewart wouldn’t hurt. Whatever the case, there’s sure to be a strong focus on never-before-seen bits of history.
It’s worth noting that one of those 366 days, July 22, 2016, will also see the release of Star Trek Beyond, the latest in the line of reboot films starring younger (and recast) versions of the original crew. Surely Roddenberry’s got something up its sleeve for that?
