Pharmaceutical Entrepreneur Martin Shkreli Starts YouTube Live Stream After Release From Jail

Known as the "Teen Wolf of Wall Street" and "Pharma Bro," embattled pharmaceutical entrepreneur Martin Shkreli starts a YouTube live stream after being released from jail on Friday.

The dawning of Dec. 17 was not a great day for Shkreli as the FBI came knocking at his Manhattan apartment before dawn, arresting him and charging him with securities and wire fraud, with U.S. prosecutors calling it a "Ponzi-like scheme."

After his arraignment and being freed on a $5 million bond, Shkreli started a live stream on the video-sharing site upon getting home. Clad in pajama bottoms and a purple t-shirt, he wandered around his apartment filled with guitars and other musical instruments. Shkreli had a similar setup in his live streams in the past.

"Good to be back. I missed you too," Shkreli told his viewers at the beginning of the live stream, responding to their comments as he played an online chess game. He added that he cannot talk about business or the allegations, and asked that the viewers stop asking questions about these topics.

The 32-year-old has been making waves in the pharmaceutical industry in the past months, primarily for purchasing life-saving drugs and increasing their prices to astronomical levels through his company Turing Pharmaceuticals AG.

Turing would purchase the rights to old drugs and then increase the prices. Shkreli came into the spotlight after jacking up the price of Daraprim, a 62-year-old drug that is used to treat life-threatening parasitic infections particularly in AIDS patients, from $13.50 to $750.

The arrest were not related to his stints with Turing, however, as it turns out that he's repeatedly accused of losing money for investors and lying to them, as well as illegally taking assets from one of his companies and using the money to pay off debts in another. Essentially, he was running a scheme where he used his companies to pay off investors from another. Shkreli denied any wrongdoing.

Following his arrest, Shkreli resigned as CEO of Turing Pharma, with Ron Tilles taking the helm as interim CEO and thanking Shkreli for his contributions to the company.
