A card game that goes by the name Secret Hitler is already deemed a hit despite not yet being available to the general public. So far, the game is doing well on Kickstarter and several critics have given it high praises as one of the best card games we should all play.
The game is being created by Max Temkin of Cards Against Humanity with three companions, and has so far garnered over 20,000 backers on Kickstarter and a pledged amount of over $720,000. The team went in with the idea to meet its $54,450 goal, but it has greatly surpassed that and is doing quite well for a title that is still in development.
What is Secret Hitler, you ask? Well, it is a social deduction game and five to 10 players can get in on the action at the same time. In this game, a role card will be issued to each player. They will either end up as a liberal, fascist or Hitler.
Each round, players will elect a President and a Chancellor, but it doesn't end there. You see, the table can decide on whether to accept or reject the roles of any player. A new vote will be required, and this will go on and on until a unanimous victory is earned. After the roles have been issued, the President must then issue two policy cards to the Chancellor, one which this player will enact as law, and one which he or she will discard.
From what we can tell, this is not your regular card game for there is a sense of complexity, which could make for a really fun game.
What separates Secret Hitler from other card-based games is the randomness of cards that can change the course of the game in an instant. It could transform the game to a point where the Chancellor has fallen under increased scrutiny where this player is framed, or just happens to experience some misfortune.
Overall, the game looks quite addictive, but making big on Kickstarter is just the beginning. Secret Hitler must now convince casual players that it needs to be played, and that is where the difficulties begin.
