Earlier in the month, Hyundai unveiled the Ioniq alternative fuel vehicle, which was slated to be launched next year.
The intriguing thing about the Ioniq was that it would come standard equipped with three ultra-low emission powertrains, namely plug-in gasoline and electric hybrid, full electric and gasoline and electric hybrid.
Now, Hyundai has revealed new renders of the Ioniq that show a combination of good looks for the vehicle with top-notch aerodynamics.
"With a sleek, coupe-like silhouette and numerous eye-catching details, its confident design is a match for its bold environmental credentials," Hyundai said, adding that the vehicle will be delivering a responsive and fun experience to drivers while answering the wishes of those that would like to have a decreased environmental impact for their vehicles.
As seen in the renderings of the Ioniq, the vehicle features contours that would minimize the resistance to wind and would assist airflow management over the vehicle's exterior. The front of the car features traditional design themes for Hyundai such as the hexagon grille, along with integrated C-position headlights. The color of the vehicle is chosen to evoke fog that is ready to rise.
For the Ioniq's interiors, Hyundai continues the elegant and smooth theme by keeping it clutter-free. The vehicle efficiently uses the space inside, with a logical approach used in laying out the control functions of the car. In addition, the surfaces utilize eco-friendly materials.
Hyundai also explains the name of the Ioniq, with the root word of "ion" or an electrically-charged atom bearing the vehicle's electric powertrains. The rest of the car's name shows Hyundai's commitment to the environment while maximizing choices for customers, with the "Q" being depicted as a visual breakthrough that acknowledges the new approach taken by Hyundai with the highly anticipated car model.
Hyundai, however, is still not revealing any more details regarding the Ioniq's powertrain. So far, the only information known is that the vehicle will have a lithium-ion battery for the electric version, while the plug-in hybrid and hybrid models will have a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine.
Hyundai will hold the world premiere for the Ioniq in South Korea in January 2016. The company will also show off the car at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2016 and the New York Auto Show afterwards.
