New 'Game Of Thrones' Seven Kingdoms Beer Is A Celebration Of Westeros

Game of Thrones and beer go hand-in-hand. The people of Westeros love it. In the show, members of each noble family almost always have a cup of beer or wine in hand. In that regard it's a lot like the real world, except the real world has beer inspired by George R.R. Martin's fantasy world.

The latest Game of Thrones inspired beer from Ommegang brewery is actually inspired by the Seven Kingdoms itself. Called "Seven Kingdoms Hoppy Wheat Ale", the beer is a combination of hoppy American ale and traditional belgian style wheat ale. Put together, the beer represents the complexity and varied nature of the country that fans of HBO's hit-show have come to love in recent years.

"We love bringing as much inspiration, thoughtfulness and creativity to the Game of Thrones beers as we can," Mike McManus, Innovation Manger at Brewery Ommegang says in a press release. "This last season, the imaginativeness of the show was pretty astounding so we aimed for a beer that could hope to match that. A fusion of two wonderful styles was an idea that really excited our team."

Ommegang describes the beer's flavor as "a full, round hop flavor with tart orange and lemon with a substantial wheat maltiness and the finish has slightly lingering hop notes without being harshly bitter" with an aroma of hops, citrus and passion fruit underpinned with yeast notes.

"With Seven Kingdoms, Ommegang has crafted another excellent brew which we know our fans will love," Josh Goodstadt, Vice President of Global Licensing at HBO says. "The world of Westeros is varied and complex and this varietal embodies those characteristics while offering a new and unique taste to beer drinkers."

The beer will be available in March, just in time for the premiere of Game of Thrones season six in April. If you're looking for Game of Thrones beer to tide you over until then, Ommegang recently re-released some of its previous beers inspired by the show, including "Iron Throne Blonde Ale" and "Take the Black Stout".
