Microsoft knows that during the shopping season people want to share more, be it files, pictures of family gatherings, gift ideas or all of the above.
The Redmond-based company launched an update for the official iPad and iPhone Skype apps, with the purpose of making it easier for users to share content using the voice call service.
With this update, Skype for iOS received the long expected feature to share files from iOS devices. With the new extension, users can share content using the native Apple mobile process. This means that at lightning speed, intuitive way of sending files is now available to iPhone and iPad users, allowing them to share content from other apps, as well.
Before using it, the app requires a quick setup. To make sure you enable the Skype's share extensions, simply go to the iOS share sheet and press the "More" button. From there, look for Skype and turn it on.
Once that is done, you may freely share photos, links, and more with a quick tap on the Skype button. You just select your file, choose the contact you want to see your latest LOLcat picture and tap Send. A neat feature is that the process does not require you to open Skype itself.
Users may download the Skype for iPad and the Skype for iPhone free of charge from the Apple Store, giving them an edge in the shopping communication turmoil.
Dedicated Apple fans should also know that the voice call service is Apple Watch compatible. This enables users to start chatting on the fly with their contacts, get notifications when they receive messages and reply to said messages with just a tap or two on their wearable gizmos.
The previous update to the Skype iOS apps arrived in October, and it brought a number of features that banked on the native iOS optimization. Users received access to Spotlight search support and interactive notifications, which allowed them to reply to messages without actually opening the app. For iPad users, Microsoft introduced iPad multitasking abilities, which enabled the Split View and Slide Over display modes.
