Director Christopher Nolan and "Interstellar" star Matthew McConaughey surprised San Diego Comic-Con fans when the two appeared on stage to introduce a new trailer for the science fiction film over the weekend to an insane amount of buzz. Thankfully, that same trailer now has landed on the web and drums up even more tension for what is sure to be one of the biggest films of the year.
Like the trailers before it, this new preview doesn't reveal much of the closely guarded "Interstellar" plot, but it does provide some new glimpses as to where Nolan and company will be taking moviegoers come November.
The central premise of the film revolves around McConaughey's character, a farmer who is living on Earth at a time when food is scare, with dust storms ravaging the countryside. By all accounts it looks and sounds like humanity might not last too much longer. Michael Caine's character recites that humanity must accept that there is nothing in our solar system that can help us solve our Earthly problems. But what about other solar systems? Could there be hope out there, in the vastness of space?
McConaughey is reluctant to leave his family behind, but is eventually recruited for reasons not entirely clear to join a team of astronauts on a special space voyage to find the answer -- through a newly-discovered wormhole that will take the voyagers deep into the wonders of space. We get to see a few new scenes with Anne Hathaway's character, a fellow astronaut who looks like she gets into some serious danger, as well as more space travel and the awe-inspiring vistas that go along with it.
It seems McConaughey and company do discover new worlds on their voyage, and can be seen exploring a planet completely covered in ice in the trailer. Despite this new footage, you can be sure that the vast majority of the film is tightly under wraps. What we have seen is certain to be very little of the actual film.
Speaking at the Comic-Con panel where the trailer was unveiled, McConaughey had only praise for Nolan's filmmaking talent.
"He's a man whose reach constantly exceeds his grasp," McConaughey said. "And it's true in this film-it's by far the most ambitious film that Christopher Nolan has ever directed."
"Interstellar" is co-written by Chris Nolan's brother Jonathan and also stars Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, David Oyelowo, Wes Bentley and Matt Damon. "Interstellar" hits theaters on November 6.
