Google has updated its Google Maps app for iOS, which will enable customers to download a part of the map for offline navigation.
Google had introduced the offline Google Maps app navigation, which allowed users to navigate maps in the absence of a data connection to the Android version of the app and now the same feature has also arrived for iOS users.
Internet connection on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets are available easily in many parts of the world but customers can still face interruptions. Many parts of the world do have Internet connectivity but they do not have stable connection, which means customers cannot access online information all the time.
Google offline feature for the Google Maps app comes to the rescue of those who face interrupted Internet connection.
"Now you can download an area of the world to your phone, and the next time you find there's no connectivity—whether it's a country road or an underground parking garage—Google Maps will continue to work seamlessly," per a Google blog.
Google updated the maps app on the Apple App Store on Dec. 14 but it does not state any details about the offline navigation feature. However, Google confirmed in an email to Venture Beat that the iOS users of the Google Maps app can access maps offline following the latest update.
With the new Google Maps app for iOS, users can also get contact information, turn-by-turn driving directions, find information about places and search for specific destinations. However, some features may not be available in all countries.
The latest Google Maps app for iOS is available to download for free from the App Store. The download file weighs only 47.4 MB. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch running on iOS 7 or above.
The Google Maps app for iOS is available in a number of languages such as English, Catalan, Chinese, Arabic, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Danish, Hindi, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Thai and many more.
