Puzzle-Platform Game 'Unravel' Out Feb. 9 On PS4, Xbox One And PC

Electronic Arts, which first announced Unravel earlier this year at E3, revealed that the adorable puzzle-platformer will be released on Feb. 9 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC for $19.99.

The game features Yarny, a character that is made out of a single but very long thread of yarn. He is on a journey to fix broken bonds as he looks to connect an old woman with her family, but he will have to do so by making it from one place to another without using up all his yarn.

Unravel, of course, is not that simple, with Yarny to encounter different kinds of obstacles along the way. Some puzzles are simple, such as having to utilize Yarny's thread to be able to swing across gaps and rappel down the trees. However, some are more complicated, with gamers having to think creatively on how to use Yarny's thread to figure out how to move forward. The yarn theme also lends to a mechanic in the gameplay that allows players to rewind their actions in case they realize that they have made a mistake.

Over the game, gamers will "unlock a heartfelt story about love and longing, and the ties that bind," the companies said in a statement.

Martin Sahlin, the creative director of Coldwood Interactive, hopes that Unravel will provide inspiration to gamers and appeal to their emotions. According to Sahlin, the yarn that makes up Yarny represents the connection and love between people.

The game is set in the locality of northern Sweden, where Unravel's independent developer Coldwood Interactive is based. The slow and measured game has gamers exploring the countryside, but due to the small size of Yarny, everything is on a much larger scale. Apples show up to be massive boulders, and trees look like skyscrapers.

Subscribers to the EA Access service can play Unravel even before the launch date on Feb. 9, and will also be able to enjoy a 10 percent discount of the game's price for the Xbox One version.
