NASA is looking for more astronauts to make giant leaps for mankind.
On Monday, it took to its website and posted a job ad, searching for new astronauts to help with its exploration of Mars. The application process will run through February 18, 2016 with the salary range listed from $66,026 to $144,566 per year.
"NASA is on an ambitious journey to Mars and we're looking for talented men and women from diverse backgrounds and every walk of life to help get us there," NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a statement, as reported by Popular Science. "Today, we opened the application process for our next class of astronauts, extraordinary Americans who will take the next giant leap in exploration. This group will launch to space from U.S. soil on American-made spacecraft and blaze the trail on our journey to the Red Planet."
This next class of astronauts could fly on any of four different U.S. spacecrafts during their careers with NASA, whether the International Space Station, Orion-deep space exploration vehicle or two new commercial spacecraft being built by U.S. companies.
Interested applicants must be a U.S. citizen and have at least a Bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics. From there, they need at least three years of professional experience in their field or the equivalent of 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time on a jet.
In addition, would-be astronauts must be able to see 20/20 or have glasses that allow them to see in 20/20. And they must be between 5-2 and 6-3 in height, so that they can fit into a space suit, of course.
Good luck on your applications.
