Although it's not quite here yet, the latest expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled "Blood and Wine," will arrive shortly, within the new year. However, to tide fans of the title over, CD Projekt Red just released screen shots showing off gameplay scenes from the new DLC.
"Blood and Wine" introduces an entirely new region to the world of The Witcher 3, in the form of an area called Toussaint, a land that hasn't been touched by war and seems almost Utopian. Of course, its appearance is deceitful, because at its heart, there's an "ancient, bloody secret."
In addition to a new area to explore, gameplay through "Blood and Wine" should take players around 20 hours, making this DLC and the previous expansion "Hearts of Stone," about the same size as the map of The Witcher 2.
"Blood and Wine, the second expansion for The Witcher 3, is on the horizon," said said Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, CD Projekt Red game director in an emailed press release. "It's a massive new land to explore, visually unlike anything you saw in Wild Hunt or 'Hearts of Stone,' and it too is brimming with stories we want you to discover."
"2015 is almost behind us," said Tomaszkiewicz. "It's a great year for open world games and a fantastic time for The Witcher. A year of intense work for the team and a time filled with many personal victories for everyone involved in a project that received more than 300 awards so far (wow!). We overcame so many obstacles to get to this point, and we've always done it with gamers rooting for us. It's your year, too!"
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a massive game, nearly 35 times the size of the previous title in the franchise. Although the game released in May, players still find interest in taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia as he strives to find Ciri and protect her from the Wild Hunt.
The title also continues to rake in awards, including a Golden Joystick for Ultimate Game of the Year and the Game Award for Game of the Year.
Expect "Blood and Wine" to become available in the first half of 2016. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the "Hearts of Stone" expansion are available now on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
