Microsoft announced its free games for August, including Gold titles for Xbox One and Xbox 360. Between the two platforms, a total of four games were announced.
Beginning Aug. 1, the games Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero will be available for free for Gold Xbox One users. These games will be replacing Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood.
The selection of games for Gold Xbox 360 users will include Motocross Madness XBLA, which will be free until Aug. 15, followed by Dishonored, which will be free until the end of the month. The games usually range in price from $9.99 to $19.99.
For Xbox 360 users, games will be theirs to keep once it's downloaded, regardless of whether of not they keep their Gold subscription active. Xbox One users, in order to keep playing the downloaded games, will have to keep their subscription active.
Crimson Dragon, which is a successor to the game Panzae Dragoon, has generated a lot of hype despite not selling too many copies.
The next game on the list is Strike Suit Zero, which was actually released to PC a year ago. It received mixed reviews upon being released, and is generally the better-received game of the two Gold Xbox One games.
Many gamers will be pleased that Dishonored is being released for free for Gold members on the Xbox 360. Dishonored is a first-person stealth game that is set in a steampunk world. Dishonored is the clear favorite of the games released this month, and will be available from Aug. 16 until the end of August.
The last of the four games is Motocross Madness, which is a racing game that uses Xbox avatars. While this game is certainly the less-liked game of the two Xbox 360 games, that's not to say that it's a bad game.
The Xbox Live Gold subscription costs users $60 per year, and allows users to download free games each month. It also allows for discounts in the Xbox Store.
Crimson Dragon was expected by a number of users to be one of the free games announced for August, but the other games were not, especially Dishonored.
This news comes soon before the release of the Xbox in China, which is scheduled for September, despite accusations by the Chinese media that Microsoft is involved in spying on the Chinese government.
