In conjunction with Owlchemy Labs, PlayStation has confirmed that Job Simulator — a game that lets users undertake riveting tasks like working a coffee machine or a cash register — will be a launch title for the company's inaugural virtual reality line, all the while holding off an official release date.
According to an official statement posted on the Sony-owned company's blog, the game is set in a not-too-distant future where robots have replaced the menial jobs humans used to do. As a way to remind humans what it was like "to job," Job Simulator leisurely allows futuristic humans (AKA real-life players) to partake in the jobs they "used" to do, which includes everything from being a clerk at a store to a worker in an office.
Essentially, one of their first confirmed VR titles will be a game that lets users reenact jobs that they used to have — or already have — in real life.
Job Simulator is fully immersive and fully interactive, involving the use of two PS Move Controllers to let players use their hands to "pick up" objects with 1:1 hand-tracking. The game also creates a lifelike environment with the implementation of the PlayStation Camera, which has space-tracking capacities and simultaneously allows the player to move around for even more in-depth and engaging gameplay.
"The feel of throwing a paper airplane, juggling a coffee mug, or opening a cash register all hinge on an incredibly smooth and fluid physics system," said the company, which went on to reveal that the usual 60 frames per second wasn't good enough for Job Simulator. Instead, the interactions are brought to players via 90 frames per second.
PlayStation will hold a demo station at PlayStation Experience in San Francisco for those who want to test out the Job Simulator VR experience.
