Yahoo Reintroduces Messenger, Now Integrating Flickr And Tumblr

"Hello ... it's me. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet."

With those Adele "Hello" lyrics, Yahoo announced that it's reintroducing Yahoo Messenger on Thursday, with the app now available worldwide on iOS, Android, the Internet or in Yahoo's mail desktop version.

The revamped Yahoo Messenger has integrated Flickr, Tumblr and Xobni platforms and that's only the beginning of a host of new features in what the tech giant hopes is a triumphant return — one that could have it battling Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp.

The company says the new Messenger was built with group messaging in mind and catering to that, it boasts features like unsending and liking messages, photos and animated GIFs ... with speed.

The unsending feature could be deemed as a response to Snapchat because the second it's chosen, a message, photo or GIF will vanish from your conversation, whether within a group or a one-on-one chat. And that goes for the other parties in the conversation as well, as they, too, will have no trace of what you unsent.

The new-and-improved Messenger also allows users to download images in full quality, while it uses a smart contact system, powered by Xobni.

In addition, Yahoo seems to be proud of the speed achieved by the Messenger in carrying out all the aforementioned activities. The tech giant promises continued use of the Messenger, even when you have low connectivity, while flying or in a remote area. When you're back to a more connected area, the Messenger will adjust automatically.

Will the new Yahoo Messenger hold its own against Facebook Messenger and other apps out there?
