Disney and Lucasfilm are going full force with marketing campaigns to get us excited for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And while the film's release is just around the corner, gamers can can enter the galaxy far, far away a bit early thanks to a new update in one of its mobile games.
Disney announced on Thursday, Dec. 3, an update for its combat strategy game Star Wars: Commander that features new content from The Force Awakens.
The update allows Commander players to relocate to and explore the world of Takodana, which has been shown in the upcoming film's trailers. Takodana is the home to "many unaligned scoundrels," and features Maz Kanata's castle. Kanata is the character played by Lupita Nyong'o in the film.
Players can engage in PVP Conflict on Takodana using two new mercenary units inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which include the Dowutin Hunter and Luggabeast Munitioneer.
The Dowutin Hunter unit is a lumbering infantry that dispatches enemy defending units with shock and awe, troops and vehicles. The members of this infantry carry thermal detonators and modified starfighter blasters to make sure the enemy is wiped out.
The Luggabeast Munitioneer unit is inspired by the cybernetic-enhanced beast of burden in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and is an armored army that applies a damage buff to friendly units.
With the new update, players will also get five free units of each new mercenary starting today. However, this offer is only available for a limited time.
The units can be updated and will permanently be unlocked through a leveled-up Cantina.
Star Wars: Commander is available to download for free from Apple's App Store, the Google Play Store and Amazon Appstore.
