Although there was initial confusion about the new version of Resident Evil 2, Capcom recently cleared up any misinformation by stating that the game is a remake, rather than a remaster.
The confusion occurred after the publisher released an investor report that listed the title as a remastered version of the game. However, Capcom states that this was actually an error in translation, and took to Twitter to ease fans' concerns.
The classic survival horror game will get a completely new look and feel, according to the publisher.
Resident Evil 2 originally saw a release in 1998. The game occurs around Raccoon City, where humans are now zombies, thanks to the T-virus, which began as a biological weapon created by a corporation called Umbrella. Survivors fled the city, with the game's protagonists, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, going up against a mutated man who created something even worse, the G-virus. Gameplay involves basic survival horror skills, along with puzzle solving and combat.
The game was a hit for Capcom, with many critics still considering it in their top games of all time lists. It also garnered a lot of fans for the franchise and remains a favorite, which is why it's important that its new version is a remake and not a remaster.
Earlier this year, Capcom asked its Facebook fans what they would like to see in a Resident Evil 2 remake. The company got a huge response, prompting a later announcement that a remake was in the works.
"You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen...until now!" said Capcom in its announcement about the remake. "We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you've been waiting for."
Not much is yet known about the remake, and there isn't a release date, but expect more announcements from Capcom as work on the title progresses.
