'The X-Files' Promo Asks 'Are We Truly Alone?'

With The X-Files six-episode event arriving on television in just little over a month, Fox seems to release new promotional content almost every day for the series.

In a new video released by the network, several homemade videos of found footage of a mysterious light seen off the California coast flash by, ending with Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) in a voiceover saying, " "We must ask ourselves, Are we truly alone? Or are we being lied to?"

What's most interesting about this video, though, is that the found footage is real from videos taken by real people who spotted real mysterious lights off of California's coast last month. Of course, though, the government explained that the lights were part of a missile test by the U.S. Navy.

Mulder, however, disagrees, at least according to this promo, which lets us know that "the truth is still out there."

The X-Files premiered on Fox in 1993 and ran for a total of nine seasons, making it the longest-running science fiction series on U.S. television. After its last episode in 2002, there were also two movies. In March, 2015, Fox announced that the show would return on the network, this time as a limited series event. Chris Carter also returned as the series' executive producer and writer, along with actors David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Annabeth Gish and Mitch Pileggi reprising their roles from the original show.

In many of its episodes, the original series of The X-Files involved a conspiracy around alien life, with Mulder even getting abducted at one point. However, the new series won't include aliens at all, which might disappoint longtime fans. The series also dealt with the supernatural and unexplained phenomenon based on Earth, too.

"No, no aliens this year, sorry," said Anderson in an interview with The Sun. "It will be scary. I hope it will be good. There'll be some laughs and I think overall, even though I haven't seen any of it, I'm most pleased with the fact it feels like what we used to deliver."

However, both Anderson and Duchovny feel that fans will like the new series, which includes a few standalone episodes, as well as an overall storyline that weaves its way into each episode.

"Even though there's only six, there will be a mix," said Duchovny to Entertainment Weekly. "It's not really The X-Files without the mythology."

The X-Files returns to Fox on January 24.
