The teaser of Microsoft’s Halo: Nightfall, a live action digital game series, was released Thursday at Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego, following previous news that Xbox Entertainment Studios is about to fold soon.
The Nightfall installment is a collaboration between 343 Industries of Microsoft and Scott Free Productions of Ridley Scott.
“In science fiction, we're always searching for new frontiers. We're drawn to the unknown,” Scott says in a statement. “With Halo: Nightfall, we're pioneering a new medium in terms of interactive storytelling on Xbox.”
Scott adds that the series is going to be real fun for loyal fans of Halo to look at how the worlds conjoin to entice new fans with their new creation.
Halo: Nightfall is said to be Scott’s first venture into the digital video game industry.
Frank O'Connor of 343 Industries, meanwhile, says to the crowd at Comic-Con that watching the new series won’t affect the player's ability to enjoy and play the fifth installment, Halo 5: Guardians.
“You will get to go on that journey both literally and metaphorically with (Locke) in the game,” O’Connor says.
Written by Paul Scheuring who also wrote the popular Prison Break, Halo: Nightfall was shot in Northern Ireland and Iceland, and has its story in place between events in Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians. It begins with the story of new character Jameson Locke, a legendary manhunter. Actor Mike Colter plays Locke.
Locke and his team are trapped in an appalling terrorist attack as they investigated a terrorist activity in the withdrawn colony world of Sedra. Spearheaded by Locke, agents of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) are pushed to coordinate with a commander in Sedra who has an extraordinary history and innate mistrust of the ONI. They are then drawn to an old artifact and forced to fight for their survival, to question everything and, eventually, to choose between their lives and their loyalties.
While a new personality in the Halo series, Locke will play a major role in the Halo 5 series to be released in 2015 on Xbox One.
The Nightfall series is said to have taken full advantage of the “seamless blend of high-quality visuals and rich interactive storytelling features” of Xbox One, uniquely connecting the series and the games.
Halo: Nightfall will be released digitally on Xbox Live on November 11. It is included at Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Apart from its writer Scheuring, other world-class talents made this new series possible, with the likes of Scott as executive producer, president David Zucker of Scott Free TV and Sergio Mimica-Gezzan who is an award-winning director known for Pillars of the Earth, Galactica, Battlestar and Heroes.
