Google has hired Robert Rose, who led the development of Tesla's now famous Autopilot feature.
The news was spotted on Rose's LinkedIn page, which also highlights the fact that he has worked at companies like HP. According to the page, Rose left Tesla for Google right after the release of Autopilot mode in October.
It's not yet known if Rose is joining Google's self-driving car project because of the fact that he did not include a description for his new role at Google. However, considering Rose's previous experience, it's certainly not a big jump for him to be working on the project.
What Rose did list is that he is working as a "software engineer" for Google Robotics, which certainly does point to the self-driving car project. Of course, it is important to mention that he could instead be working for another company owned by Google, such as Boston Dynamics.
Poaching employees is becoming increasingly common, especially when it comes to autonomous cars. Tesla has poached a number of employees from Apple, and Apple has hired talent that has left Tesla. Google has certainly done its fair share of employee-poaching as well. Previously, the company hired John Krafcik, who previously worked for Ford and Hyundai.
