First Nokia tablet unveiled: Lumia 2520 (What you should know)

Nokia finally took the wraps off its much-awaited first-ever tablet, the Lumia 2520, at its Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi.

The Finnish company unveiled the Windows RT-powered Lumia 2520 tablet alongside five other new devices, which included the first-ever WP8-powered phablet - the Lumia 1520.

"Now more than ever, mobile devices are at the center of consumers' lives as they look to capture, curate and share experiences on the go," Nokia EVP of Devices and Services Stephen Elop said in the press release. "Today we're inviting people around the word to switch to Nokia."

The Nokia Lumia 2520 features a 10.1-inch ClearBlack, IPS LCD 1080p screen with Gorilla Glass 2 protection. The tablet weighs 1.36lbs, making its slightly heavier than the iPad Air, and measures 10.51 x 6.61 x 0.35 inches. Under the hood, the first-ever Nokia tablet houses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that is clocked at 2.2GHz.

"Nokia's first Windows tablet, the Lumia 2520, is designed to work anywhere, with a vivid 10.1-inch HD display that is designed to provide the best outdoor and indoor readability of any tablet," touts Nokia.

The tablet also packs in 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage (along with a microSD card for expandable memory). The Wi-Fi and 4G-enabled Lumia 2520 has a 6.7 megapixel primary camera with Carl Zeiss optics, which is a first for a tablet. This technology enables users to take clear pictures even in low light conditions.

The tablet also features a 2-megapixel secondary camera and supports NFC, GPS, LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0. The Lumia 2520 will come with Windows RT 8.1 out of the box. The tablet has an 8000mAh battery and a maximum standby time of 25 days.

The tablet will be available for purchase in four hues: red, white (glossy finish), black and cyan (matte finish). Nokia, however, has not revealed a specific release date for the device. The Lumia 2520 will initially launch in the U.S., the UK and Finland and will cost $499 (before tax). The Nokia Power Keyboard will cost approximately $149 and be available along with the tablet.
