Mystery Of ‘Levitating’ Cars In China Solved By Internet Sleuths [Video]

A bizarre CCTV footage of cars levitating in China has generated quite a buzz over the Web. Discerning users, however, have come up with a not-so-otherworldly explanation for the mystery.

The viral video footage shows three vehicles suddenly floating as they converged at an intersection in the city of Xingtai. After seeing the vehicles lifted into the air, pedestrians stepped back right away. When the vehicles finally dropped back down, the pedestrians approached the cars to check on the drivers. Whether or not they were injured is unknown.

This odd clip popped up over LiveLeak and YouTube.

While the main cause of the event is under investigation, those who saw what happened have differing views over the creepy video clip. A few Internet sleuths provided their very own hypotheses behind the incident.

A viewer is convinced that the accident might have been caused by a downed line pulled by the truck on the right.

"Just watch the reaction of a pedestrian [on the right] as he runs up to the truck, warning of the problem and stopping the truck," says one viewer.

More users concur with the speculation that the truck on the right snagged a loose cable on the ground.

Another viewer, however, disagrees, saying that they did not see a cable which could have caused the accident.

"That was strange, three cars jumping up in the air like some invisible magnetic force," notes a viewer. "Aliens from space?"

Chinese media reported that the accident was due to a piece of steel cable, which got caught up in the brush of a street maintenance truck. As the truck moved along, the cable got pulled up, taking with it the vehicles that happened to pass over it.

As the cable cannot be seen in the video, it looked like the cars hovered in the air.
